Horse Rescue & Cultural Healing and Therapy Connection Project

Where rescued horses find freedom — and teach us how to heal.

At Beyond Energy Center Group Inc. 501(c)(3), every horse that has found its way here carries a story — a story of pain, resilience, and rebirth.

Each one was rescued not only to be saved, but to become part of a greater healing circle, where the animal’s recovery intertwines with the healing of people who visit the land. They are the teachers, the mirrors, and the silent healers who now live freely and joyfully on sacred ground.

Here are their stories.

The Spirit of the Herd

A’Hollow – “The Spirit Connector”

Gray/White Pony | Age: 20+

Native Name Meaning: Spirit Connector

A’Hollow is one of our oldest and most cherished residents. Once mistreated and misunderstood, he carries the title Spirit Connector for a reason. Born a stallion, a failed veterinary procedure left him a ridgeling—retaining enough stallion energy to make him spirited and misunderstood. Instead of compassion, he was met with harshness: beaten, whipped, and labeled as “difficult.”

When we found him, we knew his story wasn’t over. My daughter and I saw his spirit immediately — not a problem, but a calling. We brought him home, gave him peace, and in return, he gave us love without hesitation.

Today, A’Hollow runs free on our land, small in size but vast in spirit — a reminder that healing begins with understanding, not control.

Gunner – “The Survivor of the Track”

Chestnut Thoroughbred | Bloodline: Secretariat, Seabiscuit, Native Dancer

Gunner’s blood carries legends — Secretariat, Seabiscuit, and Native Dancer — but his story is one of survival, not glory. He raced professionally, broke down on the track, and was abandoned to a world of neglect. Starved, beaten, and forgotten, he stood as another broken racehorse with no value left to give.

When we found him at a supposed “rescue” facility, he was little more than bone and hope. We brought him home to Beyond Energy, where his body slowly healed and his eyes began to shine again.

Today, Gunner walks the fields as a symbol of endurance and forgiveness — teaching us that greatness is not in speed or fame, but in the quiet will to live again.

Native Dancer (Katie) – “The Fire That Wouldn’t Go Out”

Bay Thoroughbred | Bloodline: Secretariat, Seabiscuit, Native Dancer

Katie’s story is both haunting and miraculous. Left alone in a barn without food or care, she was forgotten — until fire broke out. That fire, meant to destroy, became her salvation when someone noticed her desperate cries and pulled her from the flames.

She was sent to the same “rescue” as Gunner, where mistreatment continued — until we intervened and brought her to Beyond Energy. Here, she became Native Dancer, named for her lineage and her spirit — one who dances with life even after walking through fire.

Katie now grazes peacefully beside Gunner, her strength shining in every step.

Silly – “The Gentle Rebirth”

Hanoverian Mare | From: Washington D.C.

Silly’s story began in the heart of Washington, D.C. — the city’s only horse program, overburdened and underfunded. She was overworked, underfed, and exhausted. When her tired body couldn’t keep up, she was marked for slaughter — “dog food,” they called her.

We brought her home instead. It took nearly a year before she believed she was safe, before her body relaxed and her eyes softened.

Now, she moves through the fields with quiet confidence, a testament that even the weary can learn joy again when given time, patience, and love.

Lion – “The Strength of Shadows”

Black Thoroughbred | From: Washington D.C.

Lion, our only black horse, was another forgotten soul from the D.C. riding center. With a body broken from the track and a spirit crushed by neglect, he was left to fade away. We rescued him in time, and through every scar, he reminded us that strength doesn’t roar — it endures.

Today, Lion stands tall, noble and kind, embodying the truth that power can be gentle and that healing often comes quietly.

Huntley – “The Gentle Giant”

Draft Cross | From: Washington D.C.

Huntley came from the same overworked D.C. program. His large, gentle frame was once exploited for endless lessons, leaving him with leg and back injuries. Despite the pain, his heart never hardened. When he arrived, he bowed his head as if apologizing for needing help — and that broke us.

We gave him what he had long given others: kindness, rest, and respect.

Now, he is one of our most beloved therapy horses, a giant heart in a giant body, reminding everyone that true strength is found in gentleness.

The Legacy They Carry

These six horses — A’Hollow, Gunner, Native Dancer (Katie), Silly, Lion, and Huntley — are not just animals.

They are sacred healers, living lessons in forgiveness, endurance, and grace.

Through Beyond Energy’s equine therapy, cultural workshops, ceremonies, and youth programs, they help humans rediscover trust, overcome trauma, and reconnect to the rhythms of nature and spirit.

Each horse is living proof that love can rebuild what cruelty has broken.

A Shared Mission

The Beyond Energy Horse Rescue & Cultural Healing Project stands at the crossroads of compassion, culture, and connection.

Here, Native American, African, Middle Eastern, Arabic, Egyptian, and Asian (Mongolian) traditions merge — all honoring the horse as a messenger between worlds, a symbol of trust and divine movement.

Each visitor who meets our horses feels it — the stillness, the wisdom, the strength.

When a horse learns to trust again, it teaches us to do the same.

Your Support Sustains a Living Legacy

When you give, you do more than feed or shelter — you preserve spirit, culture, and the ongoing circle of healing that these horses represent.

You keep the gates of sanctuary open for new rescues, new lives, and new moments of connection that change people forever.

“When a horse learns to trust again, humanity remembers how to love.”
